Disaster or Emergency Services
American Red Cross, West Dakota Chapter

The West Dakota Chapter serves 14 counties in Southwestern North Dakota. Counties included are Burleigh, Adams, Morton, Emmons, Sioux, Slope, Hettinger, Grant, Golden Valley, Emmons, Kidder, Mercer, Oliver, Billings, and Bowman.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross provides emergency shelter, food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In addition to these services, the core of Red Cross disaster relief is the assistance given to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their normal daily activities independently.
Volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Disaster Assistance is free of charge, provided through the generosity of donors who support their local American Red Cross chapters.

Community Action

The seven Community Action Agencies in the state provide essential services to every region and all 53 counties. Community Action Agencies are governed by uniquely structured boards of directors whose members derive from diverse segments of the community-low-income, private, and public sectors. By combing resources-local, state, private and federal, agencies enable low-income people of ages to secure the opportunities they need to obtain and maintain self sufficiency.
Emergency Services: Funds are provided to income eligible individuals and families needing assistance with first month or past due rent, mortgage assistance, utilities, security and utility deposits, utility disconnect notices, prescriptions, medical needs, and transportation (specific services vary among agencies). Available at all Community Action Association Regions statewide.
Emergency Furnace & Water Heater Replacement:Assists households with repair and replacement of unsafe heating systems. Clients must be eligible for Fuel Assistance Program and may be required to contribute a co-payment. Available at all Community Action Association Regions statewide.

Salvation Army

Mission statement: The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Bismarck/Mandan Vision Statement: Motivated by the love and grace of God, it is our vision to provide a Place of Opportunity and Hope for those in need in the Bismarck/Mandan communities. It is our desire not only to meet the needs of today but to help people build towards a brighter tomorrow. "Through our Social Services Center, we want to give every individual or family facing the threat of hunger or homelessness the opportunity to build and know a life of warmth, comfort and hope."
Salvation Army disaster response teams, coordinated and directed by commissioned officers and trained personnel, supported by volunteers, are "on call" to serve at all disasters and civil disorders which affect a community or family. Volunteers from the Bismarck Salvation Army are often requested to go to disaster sites locally and throughout the state where they provide food, hydration, and emotional support to residents and relief workers.
