Ruth Meiers Hospitality House opened its doors in 1987. The mission of Ruth Meiers
is to "provided housing and supportive services to assist homeless and low income people in achieving self-sufficiency.
Ruth Meiers has grown over the years from the first home that could house seven
people to the current programs that can house 66 people.
As a homeless shelter, the agency operates a number of different properties:

The Women with Children and Single Women's Emergency Shelter contains
16 beds and allows residents with children to stay 60 days and residents without
children 30 days. Residents are assisted with job search, accessing permanent housing,
and referrals to other services in the community. Ruth Meiers staff also provide
case management, health care and educational services to residents.

The Men's Emergency Shelter contains 18 beds, and allow residents
to stay 30 days. Residents are expected to perform household chores, and are assisted
in job search, accessing permanent housing. Case management , health care and educational
services are provided to the residents.

New Beginnings is a seven-unit transitional housing program that
allows residents up to a 2-year stay before moving into permanent housing.

Horizons provides permanent housing to 25 men and women in a single
room occupancy apartment complex.
Supplemental to the shelter services are a number of supportive services provided
by Ruth Meiers Hospitality House:
The Stone Soup Kitchen provides a free noon meal to an average
of 50 homeless and low-income individuals from the community four days a week.
The Drop-In Center provides a way to get off the street at night
to people who do not want to or are unable to be sheltered. Men and women over the age of 18 can come and have a hot meal, wash up and allowed to
sit in the dining room where it is safe. Hours of operation are Sun-Thurs from 12:00
AM - 5:00 AM and Sat from 1:00 AM - 6:00 AM.
Joanne's Healthcare Center provides preventative health care, education
and screenings to individuals in our community who are homeless or at risk of being
homeless.
Educational Services are provided to adults in the community. Services
include tutoring, computer training, GED preparation, college preparation, resume
writing, budgeting and money management.
The Baby Boutique provides educational to low-income expectant
mothers on how to prevent birth defects and premature births, encourages pregnant
women to get early and continuing prenatal care, and educates mother on how to provide
quality care to their baby. Mothers earn incentive through working with other community
programs that can be used to obtain items from the Baby Boutique. Mothers can stay
in the program until their child reaches the age of two.
The Food Pantry distributes food to individuals and families from
the community who are in need.
The Used Furniture Barn provides furniture and household items
to residents moving out of the shelter and into their own housing.
