Our History
North Dakota 's former Lieutenant Governor was committed to the belief that every individual
is unique, with value and talents deserving respect and appreciation. Our name honors her and
recognizes her passion to protect and support children and other vulnerable people, particularly
the homeless. The Ruth Meier's Hospitality House began as just one house, providing temporary
shelter to homeless single men. We have grown to include a variety of facilities, programs, and
support services. Our main facility at 1800 E. Broadway in Bismarck includes our Food Pantry which
provides food for the soup kitchen, our residents, and others in need.
Moving Toward Self-Sufficiency
The purpose behind our work is to treat people with dignity as we help them move toward the goal of
self-sufficiency. Everyone who participates in our program is expected to work actively toward that
same goal.
